Child protection policy for sports clubs

It is crucial that in this day and age your sports club should have a sound Child Protection Policy in place and the CDO can provide information on National Governing Body Child Protection policies. Alternatively, you can contact your respective National Governing Body directly for information on their Child Protection Policy and how to implement it within your club.

Some smaller National Governing Bodies may not have a specific Child Protection policy for their sport. However, the NSPCC has recently developed a document entitled “Sportscheck” which is a step by step guide to developing and implementing your own child protection policy. The CDO has access to this document but alternatively you can order a copy from the Child Protection in Sport Unit website: www.thecpsu.org.uk (click on resources).

Helping keep your child safe in sport

Sport plays a positive role in the lives of many children and young people. As well as the obvious health benefits, they can also gain important social and life skills. That is why it is important that everyone who provides sport does as much as possible to create and maintain an enjoyable and safe environment.

As a parent or carer you play a very important role in protecting your child and helping them get the best from sport. The leaflet below developed by the NSPCC, and Sport England for the Department for Culture, Media and Sport gives advice to help parents and carers ask the right questions about important child protection measures that the sports providers should have in place, wherever and whatever your child participates in.
