Walsall Council is committed to providing opportunities for young people and adults within the borough to participate in Netball through delivery of coaching within schools, introductory and recreational coaching, holiday schemes and club based activities.

The Netball Development Officer works with the Black Country Sports Partnership, local clubs, schools and England Netball to offer a programme of netball from introductory level through to excellence.

Junior Netball

Hi Five Netball is promoted in the borough, through regular coaching sessions and league matches for primary school age boys and girls. For more information on where to play and how to get involved please contact the netball development officer. Hi-Five is the only game recommended by England Netball for boys and girls from 9 to under-12 years of age.

Walsall have regularly been successful when competing in the Black Country Youth Games. In the past five years Walsall’s U11 boys and girls have finished in first or joint first place.

Hi 5 Netball BCYG 2006

Walsall’s High-Five League continues to attract primary school teams and it is pleasing to see the improvement that takes place throughout the season. This season is starting on Tuesday 12 January 2010 at Manor Farm Community Association, King George Crescent Rushall Walsall WS4 1EU. Matches are indoors and played over three rounds: 4:15pm, 4.50pm and 5.25pm. Barr Beacon Community Association put on sessions for young players (8-11yrs) on Saturday afternoons at Barr Beacon Language College, Old Hall Lane, Aldridge WS9 0RF between 2pm and 3.30pm. Youth players (11yrs+ / (Yr7+) train from 3.30pm until 5pm. A “Little League” operates at Barr Beacon Language College after Easter to June/July time.

Youth Netball

Youth Netballers usually have established themselves within a club environment between the age of 11 and 12. The club will be accredited by England Netball and will have a specific development plan for young players. There are opportunities for clubs to compete from U11 to U16. There are three England Netball accredited clubs in the borough of Walsall. South Staffordshire County hosts a two section Junior Netball League on Saturdays. The top two teams in the U14 and the top two in the U16 sections qualify for a place in the Sunday West Midlands Regional League which will take place after the Christmas break. They compete to win a place in the National finals.

Netball BCYG 2007

South Staffordshire County Netball operate Satellite Academies for U14 and U16 netball athletes. Trials for the academies take place between June and July for the following new season. www.southstaffsnetball.co.uk

Adult Netball

There are a number of adult teams based in Walsall that play in local netball leagues, for more information regarding teams and leagues to play in, please contact the Netball Development Officer. The days of home and away matches have been superceeded by central venues. Midweek Section matches are played between 7.15pm and 9pm on Mondays (and some Tuesdays) and there is also a Saturday Section when matches are played between 10.30am and 1.30pm at the newly refurbished Manor Netball Centre, Friar Park Road, Wednesbury, WS10 0BJ.

The League caters for all standards and a wide range of ages. Applications to join the League are processed in the July for the following September. Top clubs also compete in the Regional League on Saturdays at the Walsall Campus of the University of Wolverhampton – that is between September and April. The Top club in Division One of each region gets a place in the Premier League play offs which if they are successful will gain a place in Premier League 2.

There are two National Premier Leagues and one Superleague.

Getting back into Netball     

You will be able to get back to a fitter you after all those Christmas festivities are over with our Fit4Net sessions that will start indoors on Tuesday 12 January 2010 between 6pm and 7pm at Manor Farm Community Association, King George Crescent Rushall Walsall WS4 1EU. The aim is to give people confidence to get back into the sport, improve existing skills and/or just keeping fit. So come on ladies - get your kit on and come and join us. Holiday 2010 Hi 5 Netball Camp

Our Netball Development Officer Sandie de Bechi will be holding Hi 5 Netball Camp during most school holidays for Children aged 9 to 11 (both girls and boys). It's the ideal opportunity for you and your friends to improve your netball skills while you have fun and even meet new friends. Watch this space!

Curricular and Extra-Curricular Coaching Programmes for Schools

If your school is interested in having the expertise of a Netball coach to help run breakfast, lunchtime, after-school clubs, or to give support to your curricular sports sessions or give your school teams the opportunity to be coached to a higher performance level, please contact the Sandie de Bechi (Netball Development Officer) to discuss the specific needs of your school.

Netball Clubs

There are three Walsall Sports Club Standard and England Netball CAPS / Club Mark accredited clubs in Walsall:

1. Barr Beacon Netball Club (Bronze CAPS accreditation)

The Netball Club provides sessions in copnjunction with Barr Beacon Community Association for young players (8-11yrs) on Saturday afternoons at Barr Beacon Language College, Old Hall Lane, Aldridge WS9 0RF between 2pm and 3.30pm. 2. Willenhall Town Wanderers NC (Bronze CAPS accreditation)

3. Yendys Netball Club (Gold CAPS accreditation)

Yendys NC run coaching sessions for U11s, U12s and U13s at Aldridge School, Tynings Lane, Aldridge, WS9 0BG on Fridays between 4.30pm and 6.15pm from September to May.

The Club also provides training sessions on Wednesdays as follows: U14s and U15s from 6pm to 8pm and; age 16+ train from 8pm to 10pm at Walsall Campus Sports Centre, University of Wolverhampton, Magdalene Road, Walsall, WS1 3TA.
