Black Country Youth Games

The Black Country Youth Games is an annual event that provides competitive sporting opportunities for young people. These competitive opportunities link with existing events and sports development initiatives to encourage partnerships between local authorities, governing bodies and schools. The event is held in the summer term each year.

The games act as an introduction to sport, designed to nurture the talent of young athletes and inspire the next generation of Olympic medal winners. They provide new and appropriate competitive opportunities for young people who wish to progress in sport, talented youngsters already identified or competing regularly are not eligible to compete.

Encompassing events across a wide variety of sports, young people aged 8 to 16 years and young people with special needs are involved. Hundreds of young people compete at the games annually, and are supported by many coaches, parents and spectators. Competitors each receive a T-shirt, certificate and medal with winners presented a trophy.

The emphasis of the games is placed firmly on the spirit of friendly competition within a carnival of sport. In addition to the sporting showcase there will be an array of exhibitions and added entertainment to provide additional experiences and ultimately provide a fun day out.
