Basketball

Walsall Council provides opportunities for young people within the borough to participate in basketball in a number of ways. Through delivery of coaching within schools, introductory and recreational coaching, holiday schemes and club based activities.

The Basketball Development Officer works with the Black Country Sports Partnership, local clubs, and the Basketball Development Group to offer a programme of basketball from introductory level through to excellence.

Community Coaching

A programme of coaching for children of all abilities.

School Year 7 – 11

Saturdays between 9am and 10.30am at Bentley Youth Centre, Wilkes Avenue, Bentley. The session includes weekly matches and skill development.

School Years 3 – 6

Saturdays at 10.35am until 12pm at Bentley Youth Centre, Wilkes Avenue, Bentley.  These sessions are to introduce the basic skills of basketball in a structured and fun way as well as to introduce participants into competitive basketball situations.

Girls only sessions

These sessions take place on Saturdays between 12pm and 1pm at Bentley Youth Centre, Wilkes Avenue, Bentley. The session for girls upto 16 years old. All ages and abilities are welcome.

Premier coaching

For better standard players who wish to work on their fundamental skills allowing them to follow pathways to excellence.

Walsall Wizards U13/ U15

There are regular inter-borough basketball tournaments in which talented and gifted participants get to test their skills against their local rivals. For further information and dates please contact the Basketball Development Officer on 01902 605500.

Black Country Wolves U16/ U18

We curently have national league sides operating out of Willenhall School Sports College (Furzebank Way, Willenhall), for our elite performers to go up against the finest athletes in the country. For further information please contact the Basketball Development Officer on 01902 605500.
