Disabled access at Walsall Museum

Walsall Museum is located in the Central Library building on Lichfield Street, Walsall, where there is full disabled access to all floors, and an accessible toilet on the ground floor.

Walsall Museum has a range of access material, to allow everyone to get the most from its displays and exhibitions.

  • Induction loops are located on the front desks in both of the Museum’s galleries.
  • A portable ‘clipboard’ induction loop is available for use in the Museum’s public talks.
  • All the main text on the panels in the Museum’s permanent local history exhibition, 'The Changing Face of Walsall', is available on MP3 players which can be carried around and listened to while visiting the exhibition.
  • All the text in 'The Changing Face of Walsall' exhibition is available printed onto a variety of different coloured pastel paper, to meet the needs of visitors with dyslexia.  Coloured acetate overlays and reading rulers are also available.
  • A set of try-on hats and other items of costume have been created, based on the costume worn in the historic painting 'Walking the Fair', which is on display in 'The Changing Face of Walsall' exhibition. These have been designed to be easy to take on and off, and a selection of the hats are available to try in the exhibition.

If you would like to use any of this material, please ask the Visitor Assistant at one of our front desks when you arrive at the Museum.

The development of this access material was funded through a small grant from Renaissance West Midlands and MLA West Midlands.
