Home Library Service

What is the Home Library Service?

Whatever your circumstances, you need never be without a library service. We provide a Home Library service for the residents of Walsall of any age who, because of illness or frailty, are unable to visit their local branch library. The service is also available to carers who have difficulty accessing a library service because of their individual circumstances.

We also have a Home Library Officer who speaks a number of Asian languages and is dedicated to providing a Home Library Service to the Asian community.

The Home Library Service also provides deposit collections to residential homes throughout Walsall.  The collections are put together by Home Library staff using reader profiles and changed on a monthly basis.  A WRVS volunteer assists with bringing materials to a small number of Walsall residents.

How Do I Become a Customer?

Are you:

  • A resident of Walsall Metropolitan Borough?
  • Unable to get to a local library because of disability or illness?
  • Unable to carry materials to and from a library?
  • A full time carer?

If you have answered “yes” to any of the above you may be eligible for the Home Library Service.

Phone us on: 01922 710625
Email: mobilelibrary@walsall.gov.uk

You will be contacted by one of our Home Library officers who will make an appointment to visit you in your own home.

Each officer carries an official identification badge and uses a white van with the Walsall council logo on its sides.

Customers are also referred to us through other agencies such as Social Services or the Walsall Society for the Blind.

What can I borrow?

There are no limits to how many materials you can borrow.

You may borrow:

Does it cost anything?

There is no cost for books, and no hire charges for talking books or recorded materials.
