Leatherworkers in Walsall in 1813
The list below has been compiled from Thomas Pearce's "History and Directory of Walsall", published in 1813. The list is much shorter than the list of leatherworkers compiled from the 1801 census, suggesting that Pearce`s aim was to record workshops rather than individuals. The names recorded in 1813 are therefore likely to be those of workshop owners. Pearce appears not to have recorded employees such as journeymen, apprentices and outworkers.
