Services for schools
Forest Arts Centre has a highly experienced, expert team of teachers and tutors who provide an extensive outreach and centre based arts & music service. Our specialist Instrumental Music Teachers deliver instrumental music lessons for every school in Walsall.
Instruments: Loan, repair and purchase
Instruments are loaned to beginners through the Instrumental Loan Service. Parents are encouraged to purchase instruments for their children to release the loan instruments for others. Any pupils whose parents cannot afford to buy an instrument will continue the loan as required.
We arrange the Assisted Instrumental Purchase Scheme which, through agreement between the LEA and Customs and Excise, allows parents to purchase instruments for curriculum use at the lowest possible cost exempt of VAT. Advice is available on the purchase of instruments.
Repairs to all instruments can be arranged and are serviced at the lowest possible cost.
We have a qualified instrument technician on the team who tunes, maintains and repairs pianos. There is a charge for this service.
Instrumental Service
Schools receive a weekly visit from Instrumental Teachers who teach groups of pupils from beginner to advanced level in a wide range of instrumental disciplines.
To ensure coherence and progression, detailed Instrumental Schemes of Work have been devised which address National Curriculum philosophy and methodology.
All Instrumental Departments follow a common method of Assessment and Recording which schools are encouraged to include in their reports to parents.

Where appropriate pupils are prepared for external examinations such as Associated Board, Guildhall, GCSE, AS and A Level Performing components.
The “Walsall Y3/4 Instrumental Music Programme” is available to Primary Schools who choose the “Programme” as part of the Instrumental delivery time allocation. The “Programme” is designed to support National Curriculum at KS2.
The methodology and curriculum framework complements the mainstream music curriculum with the emphasis on musical understanding and classroom instrumental skill. As a result of the “Programme” it is possible to identify, through specific criteria, those pupils who have musical potential and therefore the need for differential support through further specialist instrumental tuition.
