Supplementary planning documents

The LDS includes details of the programme for producing or reviewing future SPDs. Currently (May 2008) the council has adopted the following Supplementary Planning Documents (SPDs):   

Open space, sport and recreation SPD

The council adopted an SPD concerned with contributions from housing developments to provide, improve or maintain open spaces on 12 April 2006.

Waterfront SPD

The council adopted an SPD to provide design and development guidance for Walsall Waterfront on 8 November 2006.

Healthcare supplementary planning document

The council adopted an SPD concerned with contributions from housing developments to meet the needs for healthcare facilities on 17 January 2007.

Education supplementary planning document

This council adopted an SPD concerned with contributions from housing developments to meet the needs for primary and secondary education facilities on 28 February 2007.

Designing Walsall Design Guide SPD

The council adopted the SPD in February 2008. It will be used to assess planning applications across the borough. The document will provide advice for developers and planners on the design of all types of new development in Walsall, whether it is housing schemes, town centre developments or improvements to public spaces.

Affordable Housing SPD

Affordable Housing is required on all new developments of 15 homes or over. This housing is guided by the councils SPD For Affordable Housing, which has been revised to provide more larger affordable social rented properties. The council adopted the revised SPD on 16 April 2008.

Natural Environment SPD

The council adopted the SPD on 16th April 2008. It will be used to assess planning applications across the borough. The document will provide further advice on how the council expects developers and planners to take into account natural environment policies when drawing up a development scheme, and how to comply with legal requirements such as those relating to protected species.
