Recycling collection
Between January and March 2009 we will be changing the way we collect your rubbish, so you can recycle more.
The changes we’re making will make it easier for you to recycle more of your rubbish. You will be surprised how little you throw away once you start to recycle more.
We will
- Send you an information pack telling you about the new service and a calendar showing your collection days.
- Deliver a new smaller grey bin to use for your rubbish, this will still be emptied every week.
- Tell you when you should start using your existing green bin for recycling plastic, cardboard, newspapers and magazines, cans and tins, and glass bottles and jars. We will empty the green bin every two weeks.
We need you to
- Tell us if you have more than six people in the house and think you will struggle with the smaller bin. You might be eligible for a standard size (240 litre) grey bin for rubbish that can’t be recycled. Please telephone 01922 654141 or look on the website at www.walsall.gov.uk/newbins for an application form. Proof of occupancy is required.
- Tell us if you currently have an extra bin for medical waste as you will need to re-apply for a standard grey bin. Please telephone 01922 654141 or look on the website at www.walsall.gov.uk/newbins for an application form. Proof of medical condition is required.
- Think of ideas to put your green box to good use! The green bin will replace the green box in the new system. You can either use the box for other things around the house or garden or take it to the household waste recycling centres, in Fryers Road, Leamore, or Merchants Way, Aldridge to be recycled.
- You don’t need to do anything if you are currently registered for assisted collections (the bin men pull your bin out for you). This will continue under the new system.
