Grid maintenance

Blocked grid

Maintenance is on a cyclic basis and is generally carried out on the first Friday of the month. The operation involves the inspection of the grid and cleansing (if required). The debris removed from the grid is taken to a tip. Should it be too wet, the debris is removed from the grid and placed on the adjacent bank to dry off and is removed to a tip at a later date.

In periods of heavy rain the grids are inspected and cleaned as when necessary. This reactive maintenance reduces the possibility of flooding.

We inspect and clean out all watercourses on an annual basis. Dredgings from the cleansing are placed on the bank of the watercourses to dry out. Occasionally should the dredgings be contaminated through a third party they are requested to remove them from the bank.

We work closely with our colleagues in Countryside Services where the watercourse is located in an area of conservation and special consideration is required.

We also carry out reactive maintenance when a problem arises. We try and respond in 24 hours when a complaint is received.
