Information request contaminated land

Pollution Control Contaminated Land Team has access to extensive records relating to land use history and contamination potential that can be made available to the public in accordance with The Environmental Information Regulations 2004. A charge may be made for provision of information depending upon the details of the request.

The cost of obtaining information will vary depending upon the nature of the request and the time that officers need to spend undertaking research.

General enquiries

Quick enquiries such as asking about previous land use in a specific area, location of landfill sites and checking if there are entries on Public Registers can often be dealt with on the telephone or via email, see contact details below. There is no charge for this service however advice will be of a general nature and will not usually be confirmed in writing.

Information about closed landfill sites

Data sheets providing information about closed landfill sites are available at a set charge of £25. These contain information that has been collated from a range of sources and will typically contain a location plan showing the general boundary, dates when the site was operational, types of waste deposited and information about ground gas conditions. Additional information may be included but this will be dependent upon available records. These sheets are updated if any new information is obtained.

Environmental information requests

People moving house, solicitors, developers and consultants often require more detailed information about specific property or land. Contaminated Land Team is able to respond to such requests and provide written reports on detailing relevant extracts from available information. This is a chargeable service that reflects the time required to undertake the necessary research.

When using this service it is helpful if written details of the questions you have can be provided. We will be happy to discuss this with you before a request is submitted. If the enquiry location is not a residential premises we also require an indication of the site boundary to be sure of the land or premises being asked about.

Requests can be made by letter, fax or e-mail.

When the request has been received Contaminate Land Team will identify the quantity of records to be reviewed and the time required to undertake the work and provide a written quotation. This is charge reflects the time required to review the records and does not guarantee that information will be discovered. Our current charge is £40 per hour (minimum charge) and is charged in half hour blocks.

Payment can be made at First Stop Shop by cash, cheque, or by debit or credit card (including by phone). American Express not accepted. We will then endeavour to provide a written response with in five working days of receipt of payment.
