How to make a planning application
You can either make an application yourself or employ an agent to do it for you.
Online Submission
Walsall council encourages the use of the Planning Portal and we urge agents and applicants to submit their planning applications online. You can upload drawings, fill out an interactive application form and pay for your application online. further informationis provided via the links below

You can download and print out planning application forms in order to fill them out and post them back to us together with the appropriate drawings, further information is provided via the links below
Types of planning permission
Householder
For alterations/extensions to a house/flat.
Full Planning Application Form
For all other development requiring planning permission e.g. building an office block, making alterations to a shop. (Use this form if you are making an outline applicaiotn.)
Listed Building and Conservation Area Consent
For carrying out work to a listed building or within a Conservation Area. Works to a listed building may also require planning permission or advertisement consent, in which case one of the planning application or advertisement forms will also need to be completed.
Advertisement Consent
For the erection of an advertisement.
Certificate of Lawful existing or proposed Use
For establishing whether a proposal needs planning permission or whether a use of a particular piece of land or property is lawful.
Important information
All applications (except for a material change in the use of land or buildings, unless it also involves operational development or engineering or mining operations) must be supported by a Design and Access Statement.

Please ensure that you read the application forms and accompanying guidance notes carefully. The application will only be registered if the forms have been correctly completed and it is accompanied by all the necessary supporting information.
Invalid applications will not be registered, resulting in a delay in your decision.
Please note
- Applications are not confidential and anyone can look at them.
- Your application will be published online
- We will normally deal direct with your agent if you are using one. All correspondence including the Decision Notice will be sent to them.
- You or your agent can withdraw your application at any time.
Help us to help you
- Discuss your proposal with a Planning Officer before making an application. A Duty Officer is available between 8.45am - 5.15pm Monday to Thursday and 8.45am - 4.45pmon a Friday at The Civic Centre, Darwall Street, Walsall; to give informal advice on straight forward enquiries. You may need to make an appointment to discuss something more complex.
- Discuss your proposal with neighbours / the local community before making an application.
- Check you have filled in the forms properly.
- Check you have sent us the right number of plans.
- Check you have sent the correct fee.
- Check that you have sent the right supporting information with your application.
