Planning (development control)
Planning (also known as development control) is the process, laid down in legislation, which regulates the development and use of land and buildings.
The council encourages and facilitates appropriate development, recognising its significance in building and protecting a healthy economy and environment, the council also has to carefully consider the potential impact of proposed development and protect the public interest from inappropriate development.
National Application Forms (1APP)
Provisions set out in Article 4E of the amended General Development Procedure Order (GDPO) introduce a standard planning application form published by the Secretary of State for planning permission and associated consents. The new application forms are available to download and officially come into force on 6th April 2008 and will be mandatory on the 6th May 2008 therefore any application submitted on any other application form will be rejected and made invalid for not being submitted on the National Standard application form.
New planning fees

Walsall Gigaport (Major planning application)
21st century next generation broadband and associated technologies in what is heralded as a UK first. An outline planning application adjacent to the town centres ring road has been submitted to attract new industries to the region and help deliver a strategically important Office Corridor to the town with high quality, sustainable design at its core.
Application reference: 08/0951/OL (submitted June 2008)
The application is a revised proposal following responses from the local community, consultees and landowners to the original planning application. The proposals have been prepared in consultation with Midlands Architecture for the Designed Environment and the Walsall Regeneration Company (the applicant) comprising development totalling 127,000 square metres of office space, a data centre, a hotel with conference facilities, live/work units, a health and sports facility and a small amount of retail space. The proposals also include a new public square and proposals for new and replacement car parking.
