Guide to personal searches

This Guide is designed to help and advise you of the information you are entitled to view when making a 'Personal Search'.

Local Land Charges Register

For only £11 (statutory fee), you are able to view all items within the Local Land Charges register.

You can make an appointment up to 24 hours in advance, this will enable a member of staff to make themselves available to locate the necessary information.

Appointments can made for up to 5 working days in advance.

Be aware that you may require information that does not form part of the public registers, such as Landfill or Limestone; this can be made available for you, a charge will be levied. To speed up the process requests for such information should be made when making your appointment.

Information not forming part of the public registers can also be purchased by submitting a written request to the service area which holds the information.

Other public records you may view free of charge

Planning Register

Planning application plotting sheets will be provided for you to view historical planning applications and, if requested, relevant planning registers.

There is also a pc on our reception that you may use to enquire on recent planning applications.

Road Register

Upon request the Road Register will be made available for inspection, free of charge. However, enquiries regarding extent of public highway should be addressed to Highway Information, Engineering and Planning Services, Civic Centre, Darwall Street, Walsall WS1 1DG. A fee will be charged for this information.

Drainage Information

Upon request you may inspect plans produced by Severn Trent Water Limited showing the drainage layout. However, see following note;

Please Note: With effect from 31 March 2000, Severn Trent Water Limited terminated its sewerage agency arrangements with Walsall Council.  These plans are furnished as a general guide only and no warranty as to their correctness is given or implied. These plans must not be relied upon in the event of excavations or other works made in the vicinity of the sewers and culverts.

Engineering & Transportation

A separate written enquiry to Transportation can be made. For information regarding road schemes. As this does not form part of the public registers a fee will be charged.

Engineering and Design (Limestone)

Plans of the limestone workings are available for public inspection at Engineering and Planning Services Reception Area, Civic Centre, Walsall free of charge.

For a reasonable fee Local land charges staff can provide written information regarding disused underground limestone workings beneath or in the close vicinity of the property/site. Please ask at time of booking personal search.

Upon written request further information can be purchased from Engineering Design.

Environmental Health (Landfill)

Did you know that you can purchase information from Local Land Charges which will state whether or not the property/site falls within 250 metres of a former landfill site, which is now producing landfill gas? (Please ask at the time of booking your personal search).  

If findings are positive you may require a synopsis. For all other pollution control details, you should contact Pollution Control at the above address. A fee will be charged for this additional information.

Planning And Building Control

An appointment may be necessary as the officers concerned carry out site visits and may not always be available.

However, should you only require to see the planning application plotting sheets in order to view the planning registers there is no charge. A local land charge officer will make these available.

Any other planning or building regulation queries should be directed to the above service area. A fee may be charged for additional information.
