Mobile food traders
What is street trading?
- Street trading is the selling or exposing for sale any article, or living thing in a street or open place to which the public access without payment.
- Where food and/or drink is to be sold the applicant must;
- Be registered with Walsall Council.
- Registration allows the local authority to keep an up to date list of all the premises in the area so that they can be routinely inspected.
Who needs to register?
- If you run a food business for 5 or more days in any 3 consecutive weeks, you must tell the Local Authority about any premises you use for storage, selling, distributing or preparing food.
- Anyone starting a food business must register with the Local Authority at least 28 days before doing so.
Registration of food businesses
Food safety legislation requires all food businesses to register with the local authority before the commencement of the operation.
If you run a food business then you must register with Walsall Council Environmental Health Division at least 28 days before commencement. Download the Application form for registration of food premises (PDF 28KB) or use our online application form.

Street trading consent
Walsall Council operate a street trading consent scheme under the Local Government (Miscellaneous) Provisions Act 1982. There is a free to trade and you need to contact the Licensing Department: 01922 652014. Should you need to speak with Licensing Department, please ring them on 01922 653592.
