Primary and nursery school admissions
Admission of Children to Primary or Nursery Schools from September 2008
If your child was born between 1 September 2003 and 31 August 2004 (Reception) or 1 September 2000 and 31 August 2001 (Year 3), he or she is due to join a Reception class or a Year 3 class in September 2008.
Choosing a school for your child is an important decision for all parents and guardians. Please take the opportunity to find out as much as you can about the schools in which you are interested.
All primary schools in Walsall now participate in a Co-ordinated Primary Admissions Scheme. Education Walsall administers the Scheme and offers places on behalf of all Walsall primary schools.
The Scheme allows you to express preferences for up to two Walsall primary schools and rank them in order of preference. Your child will be offered a place at one Walsall primary school only. More detailed information explaining how the Scheme will work is given on page 10 of the attached booklet - please read this carefully.
You will be able to make your application on-line this year. If you wish to do this, please log on to www.walsall.gov.uk/education and follow the instructions.
The information booklet provides details of schools and sets out:
- the important dates in the timetable for admission to primary schools
- the admission criteria which will be used if there are more preferences than places available at a school
- how to appeal if you cannot get a place at your preferred school
- what financial help is available to parents, including free school meals
- what help is given to children with special educational needs
