Mayor's Appeal 2008/2009
I would like to take this opportunity of inviting the Townspeople of Walsall to support the worthy cause I have officially adopted as The Mayor’s Appeal 2008/2009. The Charity Appeal was launched by me on assuming the Office of Mayor in May 2008 and will be open to any donations, however small, until the end of my own Civic Year in 2009.
Monies raised will be donated to Golden Wishes and Walsall Hospice.
Golden Wishes - is one of the best known charities in Walsall and exists to help those of us in society who are less fortunate than others. Since its inception in 1992 Golden Wishes has raised tens of thousands of pounds, all of which has been donated to purchase vitally needed medical equipment for both young and old in the borough of Walsall. In addition Golden Wishes has purchased special computers for disabled children, and on occasions has bought joy to youngsters’ hearts with the presentation of equipment or toys to improve their quality of life. Golden Wishes was formed by some warm hearted staff from Crabtree Electrical Industries in Walsall and is still run today by three of the original ladies who are now trustees.
Walsall Hospice - will provide specialist care for adults in and around the Walsall area with advanced life threatening illnesses. It will also aim to provide support for patient’s families and carers. The Hospice is a registered charity, which means that the services it provides will be completely free of charge and will be almost entirely funded by voluntary contributions. It is estimated that the Hospice will need to raise £2m every year for this facility. The stark truth is if the funds are not raised the charity will not be able to provide these services, services for patients which is so desperately needed in the borough.
I am eager to assist Walsall charities and I am sure that you would agree that this Appeal is for a very worthy cause. Donations can be sent directly to the Mayor’s Personal Assistant at the address below and, if available, I would be delighted to receive personally, at the Mayor’s Parlour, any contributions made. Cheques should be made payable to The Mayor’s Appeal 2008/2009.
