Local democracy week
During this year’s Local Democracy Week from Monday 15 October 2007 to Sunday 21 October 2007, councils across the country are encouraging young people to take an interest in local democracy. The Local Democracy Week campaign 2007 aims to:
- Make councils more relevant and useful to young people
- Encourage young people to 'take part, take power'
- Increase councillor involvement in citizenship teaching in schools
- Get councils to devolve power, wherever appropriate, to local people.
Your views
The council will be listening closely to your views, your perceptions of local government and the issues you think are important. Your voice and opinions are important and can help shape major decisions or key initiatives in the borough – from new sports facilities and better schools to improved youth activities.
Local Neighbourhood Partnerships
Local Neighbourhood Partnerships (known as LNPs) were launched to help local people have a say and improve the community where they live.
There are nine LNP’s in Walsall, members of each LNP meet regularly during the year to discuss key issues.
Young people are being encouraged to join their local LNPs – and have their say about local issues. Click on the link to LNPs for more details.
Youth Opinions Unite
Youth Opinions Unite is part of Walsall Council’s youth service and groups of young people from across Walsall meet at district and borough wide level to help influence key decision making and policy issues involving young people.
