Our events
Extended Schools Healthy Roadshow
Towards the end of the summer term the Pelsall, Rushall Shelfied Cluster ran Healthy Roadshows at the Radleys and Rushall Primary Schools. The events were held at the end of the school day in order to involve both parents and children. The Radleys was held on 3 July 2008 included the roadshow as part of their health promotion week. The roadshow at Rushall JMI was held on 24 June 2008.
Contributors from a range of services that included Stop Smoking, Healthy Eating, Countryside Services, Boots Chemist and exercise programmes resulted in a frantic hour at the end of the school day.
Contribution and support from all the services were greatly appreciated.
Summer activities in the Pelsall, Rushall and Shelfield area
During the summer break the Pelsall, Rushall, Shelfield Cluster provided free activities. These were funded by a lottery grant but underwritten by the cluster’s Extended Schools budget.
Statistics provided by the local police force indicated a fall in anti-social behaviour in the area over the summer break. Comments from local councillors and residents supported these findings.
Swimming:
The initiative involved a number of organisations and agencies including Shelfield Sports College, the Youth Service and Community Support Officers working in partnership to ensure that children and young people had an active and enjoyable summer.
The cluster provided free swimming at the Educational Development Centre (EDC) pool for three weeks during the holidays. There were three one and a half hour sessions a day with one session a day set aside for family swimming.
Multisports:
For one morning and one afternoon a week during the summer holidays Walsall Sports Development Service provided multisport sessions on Pelsall Common and at the EDC.
The Youth Services kindly provided space for registration, toilet facilities and a venue in case of bad weather. Rushall JMI also provided similar facilities on the EDC site.
