Children's homes

What do the Children’s Residential services do?

We currently have six residential children's homes across the borough. Each home offers its own unique services as well as working together with other homes in the borough to offer an integrated approach. These homes provide residential care for up to 23 children and young people on a full time basis. Respite care is also available for around 40 children and young people with either a physical or learning disability.

What are the aims of our homes?

Our respite home offers support to disabled children and young people aged 5-17 years and their families. It has recently had an extension and has increased its occupancy level to nine children and young people.

We also have a medium to long-term residential provision for three children with physical and learning disabilities, aged 8-17 years old. This home provides long term care planning and support to improve life chances for the children who live there.

Our assessment and rehabilitation children’s home provides care and support for up to four children and young people aged 11-15 years. The focus is to admit children safely into accommodation and to effectively plan for their return home or alternative placement requirements.

We have a children’s home offering services for up to five younger children aged 5-9 years on admission. At this home, children are able to stay up until they finish year 6 at school with us providing emotional and behavioural support to children so they can be rehabilitated successfully to family life.

Our medium stay children's home cares for up to five young people aged between 11 and 14 years, providing structured group support and care planning to improve children’s life chances.

Our home for teenagers provides care and support for up to six for young people aged between 14 and 17 years. The aims of this home are to support young people in making a successful transition into adult life. The support focuses on equipping the young people with the practical, social and emotional skills necessary to enjoy and achieve in all aspects of their lives.
