Workplace accident reporting (RIDDOR)

Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurences Regulations 1995 (RIDDOR)

The law requires certain work-related injuries, diseases and dangerous occurences to be reported to the enforcing authority for health and safety (this may be the local council or the Health and Safety Executive).

What needs to be reported?

  • ·Death or major injuries to an employee or a self-employed person working on your premises
  • ·Death or where a member of the public is taken directly to the hospital as a result of a work activity causing injury

Must be reported without delay (telephone 01922 652217) and followed up with a completed F2508 form within 10 days.

  • Over three day injury to an employee or a self-employed person working on your premises
  • Disease suffered by an employee that is related to work activities:
  • Poisoning
  • Skin diseases
  • Lung diseases
  • Infections including Leptospirosis, Hepatitis, T.B., Anthrax, Legionella
  • Occupational Cancer
  • Dangerous occurrences including:
  • Collapse or failure of lifting equipment
  • Explosion, collapse of a pressure vessel or pipework.
  • Failure of a freight container.
  • Equipment coming into contact with power lines.
  • Electrical fault causing fire or explosion.
  • Accidental release of biological agent.
  • Failure of radiological equipment.
  • Dangerous occurance at a pipeline.
  • Failure of fairground equipment.
  • Explosion or fire causing suspension of normal work for 24 hours.
  • Release of flammable gas or liquid exceeding 10kg.

Must be reported with a completed F2508/F2508A form within 10 days.

This can be done by contacting the Incident Contact Centre directly or you can download a copy of the F2508 injury notification form. When completed, it must be returned to the Enforcing Authority for your business.
