In the summer of 2006 Walsall Council secured funding form the Business Resource Efficiency and Waste (BREW) Programme for a pilot project to find out what sort of support and advice businesses wanted from the Council. In November 06 the council contacted a cross section of businesses in Walsall to take part in a telephone survey. The information gathered from the survey would help define the council’s role in working with businesses.

The majority of businesses that responded to the survey asked the council to provide support and advice through the internet. There are already a huge number of agencies and organisations that are able to provide funding advice and support to businesses, however, not every one is aware of them. In view of this, the council felt that rather than ’reinvent the wheel’  businesses would be best served if the council acted as a starting point helping to sign post businesses to web sites that already exist.  There is also information on the support that the council can provide directly.
