Route 51 Bus Showcase Scheme
Date Published : 14 February 2008
Work has started on the A34 this week which will see improvements to the Route 51 Bus Showcase Scheme.
Part of the early work will include the removal of a number of trees from the central reservation of the A34 – many of these trees are in poor condition, and further, the Council is concerned about branches falling onto the carriageway, due to the age of some of the trees. The Council intends to maintain a tree lines appearance of this part of the A34 and so any trees removed will be replaced with new ones – overall, the number of trees within this area will be increased.
Works being carried out on the section of Birmingham Road from the junction with The Broadway (A4148) to the junction with Sutton Road/Lysways St/Springhill Road will be made one-way with traffic only being able to travel towards Walsall town centre.Traffic normally using the above section to travel out of Walsall town centre will be diverted along Sutton Road and The Broadway (A4148).
Southbound bus services will be re-routed along Sutton Road during the operation of this one-way system. The outbound bus stop on Sutton Road and the A34 section of Birmingham Road will service the Southbound journeys during this time.
Regular updates on the progression of the works will be available on the project website www.route51.co.uk. The project team can be contacted on 0121 262 1930 to discuss any queries.
