A34 Red Route/Route 51 Project Update - Friday 13 June – End of Week 18.

Work is progressing well and on programme. Key milestones achieved to date include:

  • One way running on Birmingham Road removed 04 May
  • Work completed on Springhill Road including new pedestrian guard rails, traffic signals and new road surface
  • Work completed on Birmingham Road including, new pedestrian crossing and introduction of bus lane (minor works to be completed)
  • Gas mains renewal completed along Ablewell Street
  • 85% of the bus stops have now been completed
  • 30 New trees planted

Work still to be undertaken:

  • Surface treatment around tree bases along Springhill Road;
  • A34 Bus Gate Widening – ongoing;
  • Red Route signs to be installed;
  • New Street name plates to be installed along the whole route;
  • Springvale Avenue – New crossings and splitter islands being constructed

Forthcoming Key events:

  • Completion of works on Birmingham Road (British Telecom)
  • Resurfacing works to bus gate on A34
  • Resurfacing of Ablewell Street (from Pool Street Island to Traffic signals) - due to commence 16 June
  • Switching on of signals at Pedestrian crossing at Springvale Avenue

There have been no reportable accidents to date.

There have been no minor accidents in the period.

There have been no service strikes in the period.

Project due to be completed in late July 2008.
