A34 Red Route/Route 51 Project Update - Friday 13 June – End of Week 18.
Work is progressing well and on programme. Key milestones achieved to date include:
- One way running on Birmingham Road removed 04 May
- Work completed on Springhill Road including new pedestrian guard rails, traffic signals and new road surface
- Work completed on Birmingham Road including, new pedestrian crossing and introduction of bus lane (minor works to be completed)
- Gas mains renewal completed along Ablewell Street
- 85% of the bus stops have now been completed
- 30 New trees planted
Work still to be undertaken:
- Surface treatment around tree bases along Springhill Road;
- A34 Bus Gate Widening – ongoing;
- Red Route signs to be installed;
- New Street name plates to be installed along the whole route;
- Springvale Avenue – New crossings and splitter islands being constructed
Forthcoming Key events:
- Completion of works on Birmingham Road (British Telecom)
- Resurfacing works to bus gate on A34
- Resurfacing of Ablewell Street (from Pool Street Island to Traffic signals) - due to commence 16 June
- Switching on of signals at Pedestrian crossing at Springvale Avenue
