Ringroad update May 2008
Pleck Road
Progress on the reconstruction work at the Rollingmill Street/Ida Road and Bridgeman Street/Moat Road junctions has been slower than forecast in the last update, mainly due to underground services. These problems have now been largely resolved and work is expected to recommence shortly.
Pleck Road/Wolverhampton Road Junction
National Grid Gas is continuing work on what is proving to be very complex diversion work at the top of Pleck Road. Overall this junction is still on target to be fully opened by late summer.
Blue Lane West to Stafford Street
Traffic has now been switched onto new carriageway in front of the Fire Station on Blue Lane West and work will start shortly on reconstructing the original carriageway. New carriageway is being laid along Court Way and this will shortly be brought into use.
Stafford Street to the Arboretum Junction
Work is underway on constructing the new carriageway alongside the existing on Littleton Streets West and East. As sufficient lengths of carriageway become available the traffic will be switched away from the existing carriageway which will then permit reconstruction work to start.
Arboretum Junction
Work on the latest phase of the junction reconfiguration is on target and the reopening of Lichfield Street, south of the junction, is planned for 6th July. At this time the junction will start to operate on traffic signals although it will not be able to work to full efficiency until the rest of the signal network along the ring road is functioning.
General Traffic Management
The traffic management proposals for the project in general are constantly under review and much thought goes into any proposals that might affect traffic flows and access. Where some impact on normal traffic operation proves to be unavoidable the council seeks to put prior warning out in the form of press releases.
