Involving people with a learning disability
Learning disability services has a strong commitment to involving service users and family carers. Opportunities for involvement include:
- Membership of users and carers on the partnership board
- Planned annual carer’s events
- Planned annual user events
- Monitoring interviews with service users as part of the contract monitoring process
- Service planning events for users and carers to set priorities for the following year's action plan
- Self advocacy groups support users on the partnership boards and advisory groups
- Advisory groups for partnership boards have user and carer representation
Some of the work users and carers are involved in includes:
- Service specific groups - re-provision, for example Better Days groups (day services)
- Consultation on specifications
- Person centred planning
The consultation and communication group aims to maintain an overview of information sharing and consultation with carers, users, staff and the public – advising relevant parties as to timescales and any noted omissions. This group has membership from users and carers.
