Involving older people

We are fully committed to involving older people in a range of ways.  We are keen to ensure older people's views are represented within strategic planning forums, commissioning processes and many other opportunities.

The main body where activity is co-ordinated is through the Walsall Over 50s Forum.  This is an independent group consisting of volunteers who wish themselves and others in the borough to be able to speak and be heard.

The forum works in partnership with local and national government departments, local council and voluntary groups to improve quality of public services and assists with the introduction of new services where possible in order to enhance the lives of people over 50.

By subscription to the Better Government for Older People Programme (BGOP), the forum is able to reach and influence change directly at ministerial level by following direction through the Older People’s Advisory Group (OPAG).

The forum was set up in April 2006 and currently consists of 136 members (individuals and organisations).

The open forum meetings take place on the third Wednesday of every month at 1.30pm until 3.30pm, at the Council House in Lichfield Street, Walsall.
