Black and minority ethnic work
Our partnerships for Black and Minority Ethnic work have been with umbrella organisations that represent sections of the BME Communities
We worked closely with the African and Caribbean Social and Economic Regeneration Group (ACSERG) to form a steering group for African and Caribbean arts development in the borough. As part of this work we have shared resources by helping to fund a co-ordinator placed with ACSERG, helping individual organisations to apply for arts funding and supporting planning and management of large events and programmes for Black History month. We have also worked as a pathway to involve other sections of the council including Libraries, Museum, Events and The New Art Gallery Walsall.
In the past the Creative Development Team has worked with The Council’s Events Team, The Sikh Forum, Hindu Forum and Islamic Village to support those organisations to bid for funding, and to plan and manage large celebratory events for Vaisakhi, Diwali and Eid. We hope this year to involve local people in the development of activities for these celebrations to be developed by the council’s arts and cultural sector.
