Homeless and housing advice

How our Homeless Advice Service can help you

If you are homeless, or think that you are about to become homeless, we can offer you help and advice.

The first step is to call our helpline on 01922 653405 – we can then assess your situation and begin the process that will produce the best option for you.

We may be able to help prevent you becoming homeless, or help you to find new accommodation.

Who is homeless?

In most cases we would say that you are homeless if you have nowhere to stay, or will have nowhere to stay in the next twenty eight days. If this applies to you, do not hesitate to call our helpline.

Our trained advisors will treat your call in the strictest confidence.

Who can get help?

Everyone has the right to advice and assistance to prevent them becoming homeless, or to help them find new accommodation.

What can you expect from us?

If you contact our helpline we promise to arrange an appointment to see you within seven days of your call.

If you are going to be homeless that day, or within the next twenty four hours please tell us and we will arrange a ‘same day emergency appointment’.

We may be able to help prevent you becoming homeless, or help you to find new accomodation.

When we see you we will ask you some straightforward questions about your personal circumstances. This information will help us to find the best way to help you.

Our service aims to meet your needs…

We are able to offer:

  • A home visit if you need one.
  • An interpreter if your first language is not English.
  • The services of an intermediary if you have hearing or speech disabilities.
  • Offices that are accessible if you have physical or sensory disabilities.
  • An interview with a homeless advisor of the same gender if you request this.

The Homeless Service works hard to respond to your needs and provide the highest standards of advice.

If, however, you feel our service has fallen below the standards outlined you may:

  • Talk to a member of staff concerned
  • Ask to speak to the Homelessness and Housing Advice Manager
  • Ask for a complaints form
