Notice of election
Annual renewal of the electoral register
Council is about to start the annual renewal of its electoral register, which it is legally required to do. A form will be delivered to each household during August 2008 and it will have pre-printed on it the names of anyone in the household who is currently on the register.
If there are any changes to the information on the form, make these, sign it and return it promptly to council’s Electoral Services Office.
If there are no changes to the information on the form, you can save council money by using the 0800, internet or text service shown on the form. This tells us there are no changes and then you do not need to send the form back.
If by 1 September 2008 council has not received the form back or you have not used the 0800, internet or text service, then it is legally required to print a reminder and send that to you.
If by 1 October 2008 council has not received the form back or you have not used the 0800, internet or text service, then it is legally required to print a second reminder and have a personal canvasser call around to ask you to complete the form. By this stage it is getting quite expensive and this can be avoided by dealing with the form within a few days of receiving the first form in August 2008.
The new register will come into effect on 1 December 2008.
The Electoral Services Office
The Electoral Registration Office is responsible for all electoral registration and the administration and management of all elections within the borough.
You can also visit us at the address above, our office is situated on the ground floor and is accessible for people with disabilities. Our opening hours are 8am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday. Outside normal office hours there is an answerphone in operation. Please leave your name, number and query and we will contact you as soon as possible the following working day.
