What do we do?
Walsall Parent Partnership Service is a statutory service provided by Walsall Council for parents and carers of children between 2 – 19 years who have or may have a special educational need.
Our aim is to provide flexible services for parents and carers whose children have special educational needs in order to empower them to play an active and informed role in their child's education.
We work with schools, local education authorities, social services, health authorities and voluntary organisations in an attempt to promote positive working relationships between parents and professionals.
Flexible services
We provide a range of flexible services to parents and carers including:
- confidential, impartial advice and information on special educational needs from staff and trained volunteers (Independent Parental Supporters)
- information about education, health and social services, voluntary organisations and support groups
- a range of information leaflets
- access to a resource library which includes books and videos relating to special educational needs
- training in special educational needs
We offer individual support to parents/carers regarding their child's special educational needs. This might include :
- assisting parents/carers in communicating with schools and other services involved with their child,
- discussing with parents/carers the options available to meet their child's needs
- helping parents to ensure that their child's views are heard
- helping parents put their views in writing and making sense of some of the reports and documents they receive
- encouraging parents to access local disagreement resolution processes
- assisting parents/carers to appeal to the Special Educational Needs and Disability Tribunal (SENDIST), and assisting them to prepare their case statements
Please note that we only attend meetings where the parents/carers are also present. We do not attend meetings in their absence or represent parents/carers in formal procedures, for example tribunal hearings.
