Nature reserves

Wildlife gardeningLocal Nature Reserves are declared under the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act 1949. They are designated by local authorities in consultation with English Nature. Before an LNR can be declared, the local authority either has to control the site in question, or have a management agreement with the site's owner. Normally LNRs are declared on sites which are SSSIs or SINCs, but there may be some exceptions in the future. LNR designation enables a site to be managed positively as a nature reserve and allows by-laws to be imposed.

If any planning application proposing development damaging to a LNR is received, both English Nature and the Urban Wildlife Trust should be consulted. However, at the present time, all the LNRs in Walsall are SINC sites and these consultees would be informed of an application as a result of the SINC designation.

There are 5 Local Nature Reserves within the boundaries of the Borough of Walsall: for information follow these links
